At Smartick we always what to know more about our families around the world. How they heard about us, and what concerns made them think about a reinforcement program for mathematics. In the United Kingdom, we are creating a ”Smartick Family” that, although small compared to our ”world-class,” continues to grow.
More and more children in the United Kingdom complete their 15 minute daily Smartick sessions in their houses, on their own, and at their own pace. Thanks to being able to work at the exact level that they need, they gain the confidence to master mathematics. We also value families that give importance to a program that is not free, does not follow a curriculum, and whose main intention is to improve reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
Melissa is Oscar’s mother, a boy that completes his Smartick sessions at least five days a week with no problems.
How did you learn about Smartick?
From Barbara Oakley’s podcast, ‘Learning How to Learn.’
Note from Smartick: Barbara is an inspiration for us and we follow her advice very closely. We are very grateful because we know that she talks about our obsession, the best way to learn mathematics, on many podcasts. This year we had the pleasure of having her in our office.
How normal is it for children to do mathematics as an extracurricular activity?
Very normal. Both with a tutor and using a Japanese method.
Why didn’t you choose a tutor? And did the fact that Smartick was an online method based on artificial intelligence hold you back at all?
No, because that makes it easy to use when you’re not home. In addition to the fact that it adjusts according to the child’s ability on a daily basis, so you don’t have to bother making appointments with their tutor. It Is very personal and suitable to adapt to everyone and their lifestyle.
How is your child doing in school?
He is above average.
How do you keep him motivated to do it on an almost daily basis?
It is not easy, but we encourage him, explain the importance of math, we use positive language and give him time to explore the Virtual World after he has completed his session, which he sees as a prize. Now, he does Smartick when he wakes up, before breakfast, so that it’s a quick task that gives him time to do other things throughout the day.
What would you do to improve the method?
Nothing, I am very happy with Smartick.
We have promised Melissa that we will continue improving in every way. In fact, we update the platform every five weeks with improvements because as our Smartick students learn, we don’t stop learning either.
